Monika Maron, though born in West Berlin, more than 30 years lived in East Berlin. Between 1976 and 1978 he worked for the Stasi, but after she was investigated by them. In 1988 he left the GDR to live in Hamburg. He wrote other novels about Berlin as Geburtsort Berlin (Place of birth: Berlin).
