Albert Hofmann

Albert Hofmann (Baden, January 11, 1906-Basel, April 29, 2008) was a Swiss chemist and intellectual. He described the structure of chitin, but is best known for being the first to be synthesized, ingested and experienced the psychotropic effects of LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), while studying the alkaloids produced by the ergot. Dr. Pharm. (hc) Dr. Sc. Nat. (hc) Hofmann (formal name of your academic degree) was a member of the Nobel Committee, the World Academy of Sciences, the International Society of Plant Research and the American Society of Pharmacognosy. In 2007 he was named No. 1 on the list of "100 greatest living geniuses' drawn up by the British newspaper The Telegraph.
