Doctor in Geological Sciences from the University of the Basque Country / EHU, he is a tenured scientist at the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, where he has been working for thirty years. During his professional life he has directed and participated in numerous geological mapping projects, both in the Iberian Peninsula and in South America and Antarctica. His research topics include sedimentology, stratigraphy, and the paleoclimatic reconstruction of the Cretaceous and North Iberian Palaeogen.
