Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu

Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu (Dublin, August 28, 1814-ibid, February 7, 1873) was an Irish writer of short stories and mystery novels. His ghost stories represent one of the earliest examples of the horror genre in its modern form, in which, like his painter Schalken, virtue does not always triumph, nor does it offer a simple explanation of supernatural phenomena.
