Klaus Gauger, son of a German father and a Spanish mother, was born in Tübingen in 1965. After finishing high school, he graduated from the university in Romanesque and Germanic history and philology. He became ill with paranoid schizophrenia when preparing the doctoral thesis. Despite the prolonged interruptions due to his illness, he was able to finish his doctorate and work, intermittently, as a journalist and professor. His book has received one of the "Christian Roller" awards in psychiatry. He lives in Freiburg im Breisgau.
