Vicente Gerbasi (born in Canoabo, Carabobo, on June 2, 1913, Caracas, Venezuela, December 28, 1992) was a Venezuelan writer, poet, politician and diplomat, considered the most representative Venezuelan contemporary poet and one of the brightest exponents of the avant-garde lyric, besides being one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century in Venezuela, as well as the most recognized. A member of Grupo Viernes, one of the most notorious poetic groups in Venezuela, Gerbasi not only managed to become its maximum exponent, but also developed an extraordinary political and diplomatic career, being a founding member of the National Democratic Party together with Rómulo Betancourt, Cultural Attaché from the Venezuelan embassy in Bogotá, Consul of Venezuela in Havana and Geneva, Cultural Adviser of the Venezuelan Embassy in Chile and Ambassador of Venezuela in Haiti, Israel, Denmark, Norway and Poland.
