Shakespeare's imagination braids in this play four different arguments. The main one is the lawsuit between merchant Antonio and the Jew, for the loan he makes so that Bassanio can try to conquer Porcia and the strange promissory note that makes Him sign Shylock to Antonio, where he agrees to deliver a pound of his flesh, in order to take revenge on him at last. Another argument is Porcia's courtship by Bassanio and the story of the chests and the trial imposed by her dead father to marry her. The other two arguments are the loves of Graciano and Nerissa and the evasion of Jessica, daughter of Shylock, with Lorenzo.
