Vanguardia Y Comunicacion De Masas
When the Soviet artists used the term "factography", they were inaugurating something more than one of their many neologisms. They referred to that word to a new formula of the left vanguard with which they tried to make art a tool capable of transforming consciences. They would do it through a strategic and revolutionary use of the press, photomontage, cinema and exhibitions, and with that they were discovering the unprecedented power of the media to tell stories as if they were "real". That company was pretending Stalin that artists were the "engineers of the soul", but also its consequences have shaped our way of seeing the world. The inheritance of factography in art and politics confirms that it is not only an aesthetic category capable of explaining the evolution of art in the 20th century, but it also shows us how we construct our media stories today.
