Few authors in the Spanish language have lived literature as Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) did. It is difficult to know how far he would have been able to take his work, but in just eighteen years, ranging from his first writings to the sad execution of Víznar after the outbreak of the Civil War, Lorca became an excellent prose writer, one of our greatest twentieth-century playwrights and a universal poet.
We collect in this volume all his poetic production. In the immortal verses between the Book of Poems (1921) and Sonnets of Dark Love (1936), the entire Lorquian imaginary expands, that which transits between the local and the universal, between the Andalusian gypsies and the cosmopolitan life of New York, between the popular and cultured, between the sharp word and the most beautiful metaphor. This is the poetic legacy –monumental and tragic– of which is undoubtedly one of the greatest references in our literature.
