History
The University Press, formerly known as UANL Publications, was officially established in 1996 when the Secretariat of Outreach and Culture was created. University publications date back to 1944 with a monthly newsletter edited by Professor Raúl Rangel Frías, which would later lead to the creation of the magazine Armas y Letras.

For 21 years, the University Press has been under the direction of Professors Armando Joel Dávila, Jaime Rodríguez Gutierrez, Dr. Minerva Margarita Villarreal, and Dr. José Garza Acuña. The current director is Antonio Ramos Revillas. The University Press has been located in the Raúl Rangel Frías University Library and, since 2011, in the University Book House, located in downtown Monterrey. Previously, it was located on the fifth floor of the Rector's Office tower, where the University Printing Office was also located for a long time.

Since its inception, the UANL has always maintained an editorial agenda beyond the institution's own academic publishing needs. As mentioned, its first editions were the monthly newsletter that later gave rise to the magazine Armas y Letras. The editorial offering was later expanded with books by authors invited to the Summer School, an event also conceived by Professor Raúl Rangel Frías, who later became rector of our University and subsequently governor of the state of Nuevo León.

Thus, the life of the magazine and its editorial extensions have been intertwined, and personalities such as Fidencio de la Fuente, Juan Antonio Ayala, Hugo Padilla, José Ángel Rendón, Héctor Javier Mora Salazar, Alfonso Reyes Martínez, Salvador Pérez Chávez, and Jorge Pedraza have all passed through the editing rooms, both as directors of the UANL editorial sections and of the magazine Armas y Letras, until 1978.

During these decades, and before the construction of the Raúl Rangel Frías Library, the UANL editorial sections also changed and relocated. The university press moved from the fifth floor of the Rector's Office tower to a building on the corner of América and 5 de Mayo streets in downtown Monterrey, until it finally settled in the current building at Ciudad Universitaria, almost at the edge of Nogalar Avenue. Also, during the 1980s, publishing production suffered a sudden halt, affecting almost all centralized publishing activities governed by the Rector's Office.

The creation of UANL Publications also marked the beginning of a new era for the magazine Armas y Letras. Its editors have included Carmen Alardín, Alfonso Rangel Guerra, Gabriel Contreras, Víctor Barrera Enderle, Miguel Covarrubias, and currently the poet Margarito Cuéllar.

From 1944 to the present day, the University Press maintains its vision and mission of offering university students a rich selection of literature books, published with increasingly improved editing and design standards and at affordable prices for the university community. It also serves as the institutional channel for publishing books published by our researchers and academics, always upholding Rangel Frías' ideal: publishing and producing books is "preparing a historical and cultural action."
