José Carlos Fernandes was born in Loulé (Portugal), in 1964. He started to stand out in Portuguese fanzines, where he published numerous works in the 90s. Among his wide-ranging works, titles like Coração de Arame, As aventuras do Barão Wrangel, Pessoas that usam bonés-com-propel, The last masterpiece by Aaron Slobodj (Devir, 2005), Or that is written nas estrelas, Travel agency Lemming (Astiberri, 2011) and, above all, the series The worst band in the world (Astiberri, 2013), which has received numerous awards and has crossed the borders of Portugal with translations into Spanish, French, Polish and Euskera, and has been the subject of adaptations to film and theater. Fernandes has written scripts, drawn by Luis Henriques, for the Treaty of Umbrography (Devir, 2006) and A Fertile Metropolis.
