Jesuit professor at the universities of Paris VII and California and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Michel de Certeau was a passionate lover of history, psychoanalysis (along with Jacques Lacan, was one of the founders of the School Freudian Paris) and ethnology science-the other. He was also a tireless traveler across continents and cultures. He is the author of works on mystical experiences, the phenomena of demonic possession, cultural practices and implications of speech.
