One of the most renowned contemporary German philosophers, Höffe studied philosophy, history, theology, and sociology in Münster, Tübingen, Saarbrücken, and Munich. He was a visiting professor at Columbia University, and taught at the universities of Munich, Freiburg, and Tübingen. Since 2002 he is professor of philosophy of law at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and is regularly invited to teach courses by Harvard University and the Japanese Science Foundation, among other institutions. Höffe has been the introducer of the work of John Rawls in Germany. Author of numerous works, he is known worldwide for his works on Aristotle's moral philosophy and on Kant's thought. Otfried Höffe has received numerous international distinctions, including the Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Porto Alegre (Brazil, 1999), the Margit Egnér Foundation Prize in Zurich and the Karl-Vossler Prize.
