Rosa Chacel

Spanish writer born in Valladolid on June 3, 1898 and died in Madrid on August 7, 1994. He was educated in Madrid, moving after his wedding to Pérez Rubio to temporarily reside in Italy and Germany, receiving influences from Proust, Joyce, Freud and Nietzsche. After the military uprising of 1936 he signed the Manifesto of Anti-Trade Intellectuals and went on to collaborate with the Republican press. After the end of the war he moved with his family to Brazil, alternating brief stays in Buenos Aires. Due to the economic situation of the family his literary production descends drastically in exile. After the award of a Guggenheim scholarship in 1959 he moved to New York, after which he returned to Spain and continued to travel the world. She settled permanently in Madrid on a scholarship from the March Foundation, although she continues to travel regularly to Rio de Janeiro until the death of Pérez Rubio in 1977, after which she settled permanently in Madrid, this being the most productive stage as a writer.
