The British writer and researcher Stewart Spencer studied Modern Languages at Oxford. He taught German medieval literature at the University of London. He was editor, along with Barry Millington, Selected Letters of Richard Wagner (1987), Wagner in Performance (1992) and Wagner's The Ring of Nibelung: A Companion (1993). Translated books on Wagner, Liszt, Mozart and Bach and autobiography of Hans Werner Henze.
