Agustín Monsreal was born in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, 69 years ago. He started simultaneously in the short story and in the poetry because in 1979 he published Punto de fuga (Cuadernos de Estraza) and Los Ángeles Sicos (Editorial Joaquín Mortiz) which gave him the National Short Story Prize with a jury composed of Mario Benedetti, Sergio Galindo and Hubert Batis. Although in 1980 he relapsed into poetry (Canción de amor inverse, La Bolsa y la Vida Ediciones), today he has become a full-time storyteller and, certainly, one of the most important in our country.
