New edition of the second great epic-heroic poem of the German Middle Ages.
Kudrun is considered the second great epic-heroic poem of the German Middle Ages after the Song of the Nibelungs, a work to which it is indebted in many respects, although with a very different theme. Preserved in a single late manuscript (16th century), Kudrun actually dates from the 13th century, and it has been compared at times to the Iliad and the Odyssey, showing its importance. Indeed, Kudrun is a kind of "Germanic odyssey", full of maritime adventures whose protagonists belong to several generations and whose geography covers almost all the countries bordering the North Sea. This edition, translated from the original in Middle High German, makes available to the reader in Spanish a work that was already considered by the scholar Ramón Menéndez Pidal as essential for understanding medieval literature.
