This volume brings together two important texts that are at the heart of the origin of contemporary social science, as well as the current debate. “The Essay on Sacrifice”, and its corollary, “Introduction to the Analysis of Certain Religious Phenomena”. Our edition is based on a direct translation of the originals. As far as possible, the numerous references have been contrasted, taking care of the forms of transliteration from other languages. These works are complemented by two reviews of Mauss, a brief introduction, and editorial notes.
