Professor of History at the University of Leningrad and director of the Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism of the Academy of Sciences of the former Soviet Union, Sergei Ivanovich Kovaliov (1886-1960) is one of the most lucid and prestigious representatives of the Soviet historiography. Author of an enormous historical production, his crowning work, the History of Rome (1948), was published in numerous languages around the world.
