Mónica Mayer

Mayer is an artist who does not conform to the definitions of art who has developed an integral approach in which, in addition to performances, drawings or interventions, she considers writing, teaching, archiving and active participation in the community as part of her artistic production. She is considered a pioneer of performance and digital graphics in Mexico and internationally she is recognized as a precursor and promoter of feminist art. Together with Maris Bustamante she formed Polvo de Gallina Negra, the first feminist art group in Mexico.

In 1989, Mayer and Víctor Lerma launched the Pinto mi Raya project, which, among other things, has formed an important archive. She is a member of the 2011 and 2015 generations of the FONCA National System of Art Creators with the De Archivos y Redes project.
