Alan Chalmers (Bristol, England, 1939) graduated in Physical Sciences from the University of his hometown and received a PhD with a thesis on electromagnetic theory from James Clerk Maxwell at the University of London. Since 1971 he has been a professor at various Australian universities. His main area of interest is the philosophy of science. In 1997 he was elected to the Academy of Humanities.
