Alberto Gómez Gutierrez

ALBERTO GOMEZ GUTIERREZ is a bachelor of the Helvetia School, a biologist and microbiologist at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Paris.
Since 1988 he has been a professor and director of the Clinical Genetics Unit, the Institute of Human Genetics (Faculty of Medicine) and the Department of Microbiology (Faculty of Sciences) of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá. Author and co-author of a hundred scientific articles in national and foreign journals, and several books on the history of travelers and expeditionaries in the Colombian territory. He is a corresponding member of the National Academy of Medicine of Colombia, of the Colombian Academy of History, of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, and of the Colombian Academy of Language. Active member of the Colombian Society of History of Medicine and Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. He received in 2011, with doctors Jaime Bernal and Ignacio Briceño, the Prize for Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of the Alejandro Angel Escobar Foundation for his work on patterns of genetic identity in contemporary and pre-Columbian populations
