Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander Freiherr von Humboldt About (Berlin, Germany, September 14, 1769 - May 6, 1859), better known in Spanish as Alexander of Humboldt, was a polymath: German geographer, astronomer, humanist, naturalist and explorer, younger brother of linguist and minister Wilhelm von Humboldt.

He is considered the "father of Universal Modern Geography." He was a naturalist of extraordinary versatility, who did not repeat himself after his disappearance. Exploration trips took him from Europe to South America, part of the current territory of Mexico, the United States, the Canary Islands and Central Asia. He specialized in various areas of science such as ethnography, anthropology, physics, zoology, ornithology, climatology, oceanography, astronomy, geography, geology, mineralogy, botany, volcanology and humanism.
