Álvaro Pombo (Santander, 1939) has a degree in Philosophy from the University of Madrid, a Bachelor of Arts from Birkbeck College in London and a member of the Royal Spanish Academy. He is one of the undisputed masters of contemporary Spanish literature, with such outstanding titles as The Hero of the Mansards of Mansard (Herralde Novel Award 1983), The Iridium Platinum Metro (Critics Award 1990), Donde las mujeres (Prize National Narrative 1997), The Squaring of the Circle (Fastenrath Prize of the Royal Spanish Academy 2001), The Sky (José Manuel Lara Foundation Prize, 2002), The Fortune of Matilda Turpin (Planet Prize 2006) and The Tremor of the Hero ( Nadal Novel Prize 2012). He has also published books of stories and articles, and Protocols (1973-2003), which collects his four collections of poems. His work has been translated into multiple languages: German, French, Dutch, Greek, English, Italian, Norwegian and Portuguese.
