He was in charge of the Itinerant Libraries of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for 20 years. He traveled around Portugal in a Citroën van, enjoying the pleasure of reading in various corners of the country.
A poet of joie de vivre and surreal humor, he dedicated the book A rose in the trunk of an elephant to his daughter Gisela.
