Arthur M. Abell (Norwich, Connecticut, USA, 1868-1958) was a violinist and correspondent in Berlin for Musical Courier from 1893 to 1918. After the First World War he worked as a journalist and music critic for other newspapers, such as New York. Times. During his years in Europe (1890-1918), and thanks to his wealthy position, he was in contact with the great names of the musical and cultural scene. This fact allowed him to collect a large number of archival materials, transcripts of conversations, correspondence, images and concert programs, preserved today in the music section of the New York Public Library.
In 1955, Arthur M. Abell published Talks with great composers, the original English edition of the book that we present today in Spanish. The date of publication so late compared to the time in which the interviews in this book took place is explained by Brahms' desire that his statements not see the light until fifty years after his death.
Fragmenta has published Music and Inspiration. Conversations with Brahms, Strauss, Puccini, Humperdinck, Bruch and Grieg (2021).
