Arthur Schnitzler (Vienna, May 15, 1862 - ibid, October 21, 1931). Austrian storyteller and playwright. Physician, his works shows great interest in eroticism, death and psychology. He was much admired by Sigmund Freud, who knew him personally and I saw in him a kind of "double" literary. In their eagerness to delve into the psychological complexity of his characters, he was one of the first German-language authors use the technique of interior monologue, in works like Lieutenant Gustl (1900) or Miss Else (1924).
Many of his works have been adapted to film and television, among others, such well-known directors as Max Ophüls (Liebelei, La ronde) or Stanley Kubrick (Eyes Wide Shut, based Dream Story).
