Augusto Roa Bastos was born in Asunción, Paraguay, in 1917, and died in the same city in 2005. He is one of the most important writers in Latin America, winner of the Cervantes Award (1989), among others. Of very young he fought in the Chaco War, then he was a press correspondent during World War II. Upon returning from him he must have exiled, first in Buenos Aires and then in France.
