Christoph Schönborn (Bohemia, now the Czech Republic, 1945) is Archbishop of Vienna and Ordinary for the faithful of the Byzantine Rite in Austria. He entered the Dominican order in 1963, where he completed advanced studies in philosophy and theology. Later he studied Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Vienna, Slavic Languages and Byzantine Christianity at the Sorbonne, and theology at the Catholic Institute of Paris. He was ordained priest in 1970 and consecrated a bishop in 1991. Four years later he succeeded Archbishop of Vienna. Since 1998 chairman of the Austrian Bishops' Conference. For his openness to change and debate within the conservative line of the institution, was a leading candidate to succeed Benedict XVI.
He is the author of an extensive written production. His recent translations include the Castilian Bein priest (2010) and we found mercy (2011).
