Christopher Okigbo

Along with Wole dramatugo Solyinka, and the narrator Chinua Achebe, Christopher Okigbo, poet, form the most important trio of writers of Nigerian literature of the twentieth century. Okigbo was born in 1930, in the village of Ojoto. He attended the University College of Ibadan, to study medicine, but in the second year he decided to switch to classic literature. By that time, being a gifted pianist collaborates with Solyinka in live performances.
He began publishing his work in 1956, in the prestigious journal Black Orpheus. He is the author of Limits (1964), Silences (1962-1965), Lament of the Masks (commemorating the centenary of the birth of WB Yeats, 1964), Dance of the Painted Maidens, plus Path of Thunder (1965-1967), He appeared posthumously in 1971, where Labyrinths, his work with greater recognition is included. During the last years of his life, he promoted the independence of Biafra. He died in 1967.
