Daša Drndić

Daša Drndić (Zagreb, 1946 - Rijeka, 2018) was a renowned Croatian writer and literary critic. After training in English Philology and Literature in Belgrade, she received a Fulbright scholarship to further her studies in the United States. She was a professor at the University of Toronto and English Literature at the University of Rijeka (Croatia). She was also an editor for the Vuk Karadžic imprint and a literary translator from English. Her work has been translated into more than 15 languages. Drndic has written numerous short stories and a dozen novels, among which stand out: The Double (Doppelgänger, published in 2002 in Belgrade and in 2005 in Zagreb), Leica (Leica format, 2003), War Songs (Cannzone di guerra, 2007), April in Berlin (April u Berlinu, 2009), Belladonna (2012) and EEG (2017). Trieste (Sonnenschein, 2007), was her first novel published in Spain by Automática (2015).

Her work gained wide recognition for depicting the atrocities of the 20th century, with writing that is brutal and beautiful at the same time. Her work has always revolved around memory, masterfully mixing documented real events with fiction.
