Dian Fossey

Dian Fossey (San Francisco, USA, 1932 - Ruhengeri, Rwanda, 1985) was an American zoologist widely recognized for her scientific and conservation work. In 1967 she moved to Africa to study gorillas sponsored by Louis Leakey, and together with Jane Goodall and Birutė Galdikas she formed the group of Leakey's Trimates or Los Angeles: the world's leading primate researchers. Fossey was hacked to death in her cabin in the Virunga Mountains on December 26, 1985, allegedly by poachers.
