Dzevad Karahasan

Dževad Karahasan (born January 25, 1953 in Duvno, Bosnia) is a Bosnian writer and playwright.

He studied Comparative Literature at the University of Sarajevo and received his doctorate in Zagreb with a thesis on the Croatian writer Miroslav Kreleža.

He later he was Professor of Dramaturgy at the University of Sarajevo until 1993, at which point he fled the city in the middle of the siege to teach in Salzburg. In his book 'Sarajevo. Diario de un exodo 'relates the thoughts and reflections that he elaborated in the year that he lived through the siege, as well as the responsibility of literature and writers in wars. Since 1993 he works as a Karahasan playwright and writer for the Austrian Theater Society for Music and Drama ARBOS, together with director Herbert Gantschacher, who staged plays and has partly translated into German.
