Eustaquio Barjau

Eustaquio Barjau Riu (Majadahonda, Madrid, July 2, 1932), Spanish philologist and translator, professor of German at the Cervantes Institute and of German Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid. He has translated Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Friedrich Hölderlin, Novalis, Peter Handke, Max Frisch and Martin Heidegger, among others, and has written his own essays on Antonio Machado and Rainer Maria Rilke. In 2003 he received the National Award for the work of a translator, and also holds the Cross of Merit of the German Republic. In 2006 and 2007 he taught at the University of Münster, in Germany.
