Ewald Scharfenberg

Born in Caracas. He graduated in Social Communication from the Central University of Venezuela in 1984. In 1985 he joined the newspaper El Nacional as editor of the Sunday magazine "Feriado" and the sports pages. Then, in 1988, he was part of the founding team of Exceso magazine, of which he would be Editor-in-Chief until 1991. That year he went on to direct the Sunday supplement "Letra G" of the newspaper El Globo. In 1993 he became editor-in-chief of Producto magazine and later worked as Associate Creative Director at Feedback Communications. From 1999 to 2004 he worked at Comar, a JMC / Young & Rubicam group company, as Vice President of Strategic Planning. As of June 2004 he leads his own company, E.W. Communication Projects, in the brand conception area. A freelance journalist, since 1996 he has served as a correspondent in Caracas for Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Along with other prominent Latin American journalists, he is part of the advisory board of the Institute for Press and Society (IPYS), in Lima, Peru. Likewise, he has been a frequent contributor to the magazines Exceso, Nueva Sociedad, Veintiuno, Comunicación and Imagen; and, on different occasions, columnist for the newspaper El Nacional.
