Francisco Cervantes

Francisco Cervantes (born Querétaro, 1938 - f. 2005) was a Mexican journalist and writer. In 1977 he lived in Portugal. He studied law at the University of Querétaro. He worked as a journalist (among other things, he published the magazine Ágora) and in advertising. He received a scholarship from the Guggenheim Foundation. He made translations of Fernando Pessoa and other Portuguese-language poets. In 1982 he won the Xavier Villaurrutia Award and in 1986 he received the Rio Branco Order in Brazil and the Heriberto Frías de Queretaro Prize. From the Spanish poet Gonzalo de Berceo and Portuguese medieval poetry comes a breath and a rhythm to which bitter contemporary regrets are added.
