Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos (Gijón, January 5, 1744-Puerto de Vega, November 27, 1811) was a Spanish writer, jurist and politician. Especially committed to the economic and cultural development of his country, his report on the agrarian law or his memory on public education was relevant. He was the older brother of the Poetisa Josefa de Jovellanos.
