Gunnar Ekelöf

Gunnar Ekelöf (Stockholm, 1907 - Sigtuna, 1968).
Swedish poet, considered the most important of his country in the twentieth century. He was always considered a self-taught, despite having studied at the School of Oriental Studies in London and Upsala University.
In 1932 he published Tarde en la tierra, a poem written during a long stay in Paris, which became one of the fundamental texts of Swedish poetry of the twentieth century. In 1941 he published one of his great poems, Song of the ferry. Later it would publish Non serviam, that constitutes a rejection of the modern Swedish society.
The Divan trilogy, which is part of Fatumeh's legend, which appeared in the mid-1960s, is the summit of his work. In it manifests his passion for the East.
In 1958 he was elected a member of the Swedish Academy.
His work as a translator, especially French poetry, is also noteworthy.
