Guzel Yájina (Kazan, 1977) studied English and German philology at the University of Kazan, after which he trained as a screenwriter in Moscow. His first novel, Zuleijá abre los ojos, has been translated into more than twenty languages and has received numerous awards, including the prestigious 2015 Grand Book Prize in Russia and the Tomasi di Lampedusa Prize.
