Herta Müller (Nitzkydorf, 1953), descendant of Cuban immigrants to Romania, is one of the strongest values of Romanian literature in German. He studied Germanic and Romance Philology at the University of Timisoara and was forced to leave the country for its role in defending the rights of the German minority. Since 1987 lives in Berlin. Herta Müller, Nobel Prize for Literature 2009, has also been awarded the Aspekte (1984), Ricarda Huch (1987), Roswitha von Gandersheim (1990), Franz Kafka (1999) and Würth (2006) awards, among others.
