Iván Serguéyevich Turguénev

Iván Sergéyevich Turgénev, was a writer -especially in the description of natural environments and in the creation of rural characters-, Russian novelist and playwright. He was born on November 9, 1818 in Orel (Russian Empire) and died on September 3, 1883 in Bougival (Paris, France). He studied in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and from 1838 to 1841 at the University of Berlin, where he expanded his knowledge of philosophy. At that time, German idealism and Hegelian philosophy were of interest to Russian intellectuals. The knowledge of this progressive environment left an indelible mark on his thinking. He spent long periods in his country, and traveled in France and Italy. He wrote several plays that stand out for the balance and harmony of his prose. His first novel revealed his deep understanding of Russian life. In his Poems in Prose (1878) he exposed his pessimistic philosophy about existence.
