Jayant V. Narlikar

Jayant Vishnu Narlikar (b. July 19, 1938 in Kolhapur) is an Indian astrophysicist. He is considered one of the leading experts and proponents of the Steady State Theory in cosmology.

His work on gravitation in collaboration with Fred Hoyle, called the Hoyle-Narlikar Theory, proposed a synthesis between Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity and Mach's Principle. He is the founder and director of the Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune (India). In 2004 he received India's second highest civilian award; the Padma Vibhushan.

Professor Narlikar is also dedicated to popularizing science by writing science fiction works.
