Jenny Nordberg

Jenny Nordberg

New York-based correspondent and columnist for the Swedish national newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. In 2010, she uncovered the story of the Bacha Posh — girls growing up disguised as boys in a gender-segregated Afghanistan. The story was published in The New York Times and The International Herald Tribune, and Nordberg's original research was used for a multitude of opinion pieces from around the world and inspired various works of fiction. Her research reveals totally new and unknown aspects of this practice and delves into gender segregation and resistance among women in Afghanistan. Five years later, this cross-border investigation is described by Publisher’s Weekly as “one of the most compelling portraits of Afghan culture known.” Nordberg is also developing bachaposh.com, an online tool for girls who have grown up as boys due to segregation. He has produced and written several documentaries on Iraqi refugees, Pakistan's nuclear proliferation, or the impact of the global financial crisis. In Sweden, Nordberg was a member of the first investigative team at Swedish national radio, where he oversaw projects on terrorism and politics. He has won several awards from Investigative Reporters and Editors, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and the Föreningen Grävande Journalister.
