John Lloyd Stephens. He was an American explorer, writer, traveler, lawyer, and diplomat. Stephens was a central figure in the investigation of the Mayan civilization, and in the planning of the Panama Railroad, to cross the Isthmus. His works on travels through Central America with descriptions of the Mayan ruins opened the way for research on them. He has different publications on exploration and travel; besides that his works inspire Edgar Allan Poe, the North American writer.
On the other hand, it follows the chronicles of explorations in the ruins of Mesoamerica, by Juan Galindo and was sent as a special ambassador to Central America in 1839 by the American president Martin Van Buren; while Stephens is there, the site disintegrates, due to a civil conflict.
