John Powell holds a PhD in Physics from Imperial College London and a Masters in Musical Composition from the University of Sheffield. He divides his time between scientific research, the direction of a laser company and musical composition. He is a visiting professor of Materials Science at the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom) and the University of Lulea (Sweden)
