He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Faculty of Chemistry of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a PhD from the School of Molecular Sciences of the University of Sussex, England. Professor of the Faculty of Chemistry since 1977 and currently attached to the Institute of Philosophical Research, he has taught more than 100 courses from high school to doctorate, published more than 110 peer-reviewed articles on chemistry, education, philosophy, history and dissemination of science and He directed about 30 bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses.
He is the author or co-author of more than 70 book chapters and many other textbooks and outreach, among which the Free Natural Science Textbooks stand out, coordinated by him, and edited by the Secretary of Public Education, of which To date, more than one hundred million copies have been published.
He has been Director General of the Madrid AC College (1989-1997) and of the General Directorate for the Dissemination of Science at UNAM (1997-2000) as well as professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (1987), Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (1988 , 2002) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2005).
He is a member of the National System of Researchers (NIII) in the area of humanities. He has received different recognitions, among which the following stand out: “Andrés Manuel del Río” National Chemistry Award from the Chemical Society of Mexico (1994), National Autonomous University of Mexico Award for teaching in Natural Sciences (1996), Third World Award of Network of Scientific Organizations (TWNSO) awarded by the Mexican Academy of Sciences (1996), Roberto Moreno de los Arcos Prize awarded by the Mexican Society for the History of Science and Technology (2006).
