Jose Javier Villarreal

He was born in Tijuana, Baja California, on July 17, 1959. Poet, essayist and translator. He lives in Monterrey, Nuevo León. He has a degree in Spanish Letters from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at El Paso and a PhD from El Colegio de Michoacán. Professor of Renaissance, Baroque and Contemporary Poetry Literature at UANL; he was director of Los Twelve Tubes and Loaf. Collaborator of Casa del Tiempo, El Buscón, La Gaceta del FCE, La Tempestad, Letras Libres, Plural, Punto, Renacimiento y Siempre !. Member of the National System of Art Creators (2007-2009 / 2011-2013 / 2015-2018). National Prize for Literature Simón Salazar Mora 1986. National Prize for Poetry Aguascalientes 1987 for Mar del norte. Prize of the National Poetry Contest Alfonso Reyes 1989, Monterrey, for La procesión. Winner of the First Angela Figuera Literary Contest 1989. UANL 1990 Arts Award. World Cultural Council Awards 2008 Distinction. His collection of poems Mar del norte is included in the compilation Aguascalientes Poetry Prize 30 years, 1978-1987, Joaquín Mortiz / Gob. from Edo. de Aguascalientes / INBA, 1997. Part of his work has been translated into Portuguese and French.
