Juan Rulfo

Juan Rulfo

(Apulco, Jalisco, 1918 - Mexico City, 1986) Mexican writer. A single book of stories, El llano en llamas (1953), and a single novel, Pedro Páramo (1955), were enough for Juan Rulfo to be recognized as one of the great masters of the twentieth century Hispano-American narrative. His work, as brief as it is intense, occupies by its quality a unique position within the so-called Boom of Spanish-American literature of the 60s, an editorial phenomenon that made the world know the size of new (and not so new, as in the case of Rulfo) narrators of the continent.
