Lawrence Durrell

Lawrence Durrell

Lawrence George Durrell (Jalandhar, India, February 27, 1912-Sommières, France, November 8, 1990) was a British writer, brother of Gerald Durrell, also a writer and zoologist. He wrote biographies, poetry, plays, travel, and novels. Durrell resisted being associated with the UK, preferring to be seen as cosmopolitan. It was found posthumously that he never actually had British citizenship.1 His masterpiece is considered to be the tetralogy called The Alexandria Quartet.
