Mark Boyle

Ballyshannon (Ireland), 1979

Irish activist and writer known for having founded the Freeconomy Community and, above all, for living without money since November 2008. He writes regularly on the Freeconomy blog and in the British newspaper The Guardian. During his first six years in the UK, Boyle lived in Bristol, where he created two organic food companies. In 2007, after a conversation with a friend, he decided that money creates a certain disconnect between us and our actions. A few months later, inspired by the Gandhi Salt March in 1930, he organized a march from Bristol to Porbandar, India, the thinker's birthplace.

A year later, he developed an ambitious plan: to live totally without money. After a few prep purchases, like a solar panel and wood stove, he began his first year of life penniless on the 2008 No Purchase Day. Boyle has received considerable publicity for his appearances on television, radio, and other media. of communication from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, the United States and Russia, who have taken an interest in their day-to-day life, especially in topics such as food, hygiene and traditionally expensive aspects of life, such as celebration of Christmas.
